Our Story

Sky Mountain Adventures was born from founder Regan Nelson’s deep connection to the mountains and love of exploring the world on foot.

For years, Regan has traveled in search of mountain adventures, from Chamonix, where she has spent her summers since 2019, to Austria, Italy, Switzerland, New Zealand and many other mountain destinations. The idea for Sky Mountain grew from sharing these places with friends, showing them favorite trails, hidden gems, and the local spots that make each destination special.

Today, every Sky Mountain adventure is rooted in that same philosophy: creating experiences that feel less like a traditional group tour and more like exploring an incredible place with someone who knows and loves it.

Through small-group adventures, Sky Mountain brings women together to challenge themselves, connect with one another, and experience the mountains in a deeper, more meaningful way.

Meet the Founder

Regan Nelson grew up in the mountains of Sun Valley, Idaho, where a lifelong love of movement and the outdoors began. A former competitive alpine ski racer, she has spent her life exploring the mountains through XC and backcountry skiing, trail running, hiking, cycling, and other endurance sports.

She earned her BS and MS in Exercise Physiology and spent six years at Nike working in sports research and innovation before starting her own consumer insights and innovation consultancy in 2010. That flexibility allowed her to travel more, spend more time in the mountains, and explore some of the places that would eventually inspire Sky Mountain Adventures.

In 2025, Regan created Sky Mountain Adventures as a way to bring together the things she loves most: mountains, movement, travel, and connecting people through shared experiences.

When she’s not traveling, you’ll find her at home in Sun Valley with her husband and daughter, most likely skiing, trail running, hiking, or chasing another summit.

Meet the Team

  • Eva Unterrainer

    Mountain Hiking Guide / Bergwanderführerin

    Eva Unterrainer leads our hikes in Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria. A certified mountain hiking guide with a background in sports science, fitness, and the outdoor industry, she is also a longtime member and youth leader with the Austrian Alpine Club. Her local knowledge and love of the mountains help us experience the Austrian Alps through the eyes of someone who knows them well.

  • Marta Gil

    International Mountain Leader

    Marta Gil guides our hikes in Chamonix, France. Born and raised in Benasque in the Spanish Pyrenees, she grew up skiing, hiking, and climbing. She moved to Chamonix in 2015 to pursue guiding and loves sharing the geology, ecology, and history of the Alps, helping guests connect with the mountains beyond the views.

  • Zoe Hart

    IFMGA Mountain Guide

    Zoe Hart guides our hikes in Chamonix, France, where she has lived for more than 20 years. A Patagonia ambassador and the fourth American woman to earn her IFMGA mountain guide certification, she has led expeditions and climbed major alpine routes around the world. Zoe brings a wealth of experience and a passion for connecting adventure, community, and environmental stewardship—all rooted in a life of purpose and wild joy.

  • Emilie Zanetton

    Yoga/Massage/Facials

    Emilie Zanetton leads yoga and recovery experiences for our Chamonix retreats. An experienced yoga teacher, massage therapist, and esthetician, she grew up in the region and now lives in nearby Annecy. Her calming presence and restorative sessions help you recharge after time on the trail, with optional massages and facials for added rejuvenation.

  • Gudrun Tritscher

    Yoga Instructor

    Gudrun Tritscher leads yoga at our retreats in Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria. Raised in nearby Schladming and now a Ramsau local, she brings a deep connection to the region and its mountains to her practice. Gudrun first met Regan nearly 40 years ago as her family’s au pair in the U.S. Today, she teaches yoga alongside her other work and enjoys exploring the surrounding mountains with her family.

  • Veronika Mayerhofer

    Sports Psychologist / Psychologist

    Veronika Mayerhofer leads self-discovery and reflection sessions at our retreats in Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria. A sports psychologist, psychologist, and former Olympian from Bad Gastein, she draws on her experience in elite sport, mental performance, embodiment, breathwork, and meditation to help guests reconnect with themselves and find greater clarity and intention. As a new mom to daughter Josephine, she also brings a personal perspective on balancing performance, identity, and everyday life.

  • Carmen Tempfli

    Chef/House Manager

    Carmen Tempfli, with support from Tobias, takes care of breakfast and dinner at our Chamonix retreats. Their welcoming hospitality and thoughtfully prepared meals mean guests can return from the mountains, settle in, and enjoy a beautiful meal with everything taken care of.
